Diverse Labor Supply in the Manhattan Area

The Greater Fort Riley Labor Basin consists of a nine-county area with a total population of approximately 163,102 and an available labor pool of 33,802.

According to a 2008 Docking Institute labor study, 98.9% of the available labor pool has at least a high school diploma, almost 84% has at least some college education, and 27.6% has at least a bachelor’s degree.

Around 4,000 students graduate from K-State annually; 250 graduate from the technical college and 3,000 Fort Riley military personnel could potentially enter the labor force in the Manhattan area. Many wish to stay in the area if the right employment opportunity would present itself.
